BMW M is turning the Nürburgring’s upcoming 100th anniversary into a nine-model celebration. Six BMW M cars and three BMW Motorrad M motorcycles receive a distinctive Nürburgring Green finish, special Nordschleife graphics and model-specific equipment inspired by one of the most demanding racetracks in the world.
The Nürburgring officially opened on June 18, 1927, meaning its 100th anniversary will take place in 2027. For BMW M, however, the connection with the legendary circuit goes far beyond a racing heritage. The Nordschleife remains one of the company’s most important development environments, where chassis, powertrains, aerodynamics, brakes and thermal management are tested under extreme conditions.
The new “100 Jahre Nürburgring” edition brings that connection to production models, combining motorsport-inspired technology with a distinctive anniversary design.
Why the Nürburgring Matters to BMW M

The 20.8-kilometre Nordschleife features 73 corners, major elevation changes and constantly changing track characteristics. BMW M uses the circuit as a development benchmark for its high-performance road cars.
According to BMW, all of its production vehicles are put through their paces on the Nordschleife. The extreme combination of fast sections, technical corners and elevation changes makes the track particularly useful for testing the interaction between the chassis, drivetrain, aerodynamics, brakes and thermal management.
That makes the Nürburgring a natural setting for an anniversary edition built around the idea of transferring motorsport technology to road-going performance cars.
Six BMW M Cars Join the 100 Jahre Nürburgring Edition
The car side of the anniversary collection includes six BMW M models:
Editor’s Choice
- BMW M2
- BMW M3 Sedan
- BMW M3 Touring
- BMW M4 Coupé
- BMW M5 Sedan
- BMW M5 Touring
Rather than focusing on a single model, BMW M has applied the Nürburgring theme across several parts of its current performance range. The collection therefore covers everything from the compact, driver-focused M2 to the powerful M5 models with their M HYBRID drive system.

Nürburgring Green Defines the Anniversary Edition
The most obvious visual connection between all nine models is the historical Nürburgring Green paint developed specifically for the anniversary edition.
BMW also offers its M cars in Black Sapphire metallic. In that configuration, Nürburgring Green remains visible through selected exterior accents, including details on the wheels and, depending on the model, the kidney frame.
The cars also feature a dedicated anniversary design incorporating the “100 Years” logo, the wording “Nürburgring since 1927” and the silhouette of the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Depending on the model, the graphics appear on the front doors, C-pillars and rear side sections. Special edition stripes are also applied across the roof. The M2, M3 Sedan, M4 Coupé and M5 Sedan use an M Carbon roof, while the M3 Touring and M5 Touring feature a steel roof with the exclusive anniversary design.
BMW M2 100 Jahre Nürburgring
The BMW M2 represents the compact end of the anniversary collection, but BMW has given it some of the most distinctive equipment in the range.
The special M2 features an M Carbon roof with exclusive edition stripes, M Carbon bucket seats and dedicated Nürburgring graphics. It rides on Styling 930 M wheels in high-gloss black.
The front headrests also feature an embroidered Nürburgring silhouette, adding another reference to the Nordschleife inside the cabin.
BMW says the M2 will become available to order in the 100 Jahre Nürburgring design from January 2027. Its product specification is currently described by BMW as preliminary.
BMW M3 Sedan and M3 Touring
The BMW M3 Sedan and M3 Touring bring the Nürburgring theme to two different interpretations of the M3 formula.
Both cars receive edition graphics on the C-pillars, rear side sections and front doors. The M3 Sedan features an M Carbon roof, while the M3 Touring uses a steel roof with the special edition stripes.
Both models are equipped with Styling 826 M wheels featuring Nürburgring Green accents. When finished in Black Sapphire metallic, the cars also receive additional green exterior details, including the kidney frame.
The front headrests feature an embroidered Nürburgring silhouette, while the inline-six engines benefit from BMW M Ignite technology.
BMW M4 Coupé
The BMW M4 Coupé takes a particularly sporty approach to the anniversary design.
Its specification includes an M Carbon roof with exclusive edition stripes, Styling 826 M wheels with Nürburgring Green accents and a green kidney frame.
The anniversary graphics appear on the front doors, C-pillar and rear side sections. Inside, the front headrests feature the Nürburgring silhouette.
Like the M2 and M3, the M4’s inline-six engine also benefits from BMW M Ignite technology, bringing a motorsport-inspired technical development into the production car.
BMW M5 Sedan
The BMW M5 Sedan combines the anniversary design with the latest generation of BMW M’s high-performance hybrid technology.
The car features the M HYBRID drive system, an M Carbon roof with the special edition design and Styling 951 M wheels with Nürburgring Green accents.
The black interior receives anniversary-specific details, including an embroidered Nordschleife silhouette on the front headrests.
BMW M5 Touring
The BMW M5 Touring combines the same M HYBRID performance concept with the practicality of a Touring body style.
Unlike the Sedan, the M5 Touring uses a steel roof with the exclusive anniversary stripes. It also receives Styling 951 M wheels with Nürburgring Green accents and the Nürburgring embroidery inside.
The result is perhaps one of the most interesting combinations in the collection: a high-performance estate designed around the same Nürburgring-inspired visual identity as BMW’s most focused M cars.
BMW M Ignite Brings Motorsport Technology to the Inline-Six

One of the more interesting technical elements of the 100 Jahre Nürburgring edition is BMW M Ignite.
The patented BMW technology is a pre-chamber ignition system designed to improve efficiency, particularly under high engine loads. BMW says the system can reduce fuel consumption under racetrack conditions and help the engines meet Euro 7 requirements without sacrificing performance.
BMW M Ignite has been used in the engines of the BMW M2, BMW M3 and BMW M4 since July and August 2026.
It is an important part of the philosophy behind the anniversary edition. The Nürburgring is not only being referenced through paint, graphics and badges; technology developed with extreme driving conditions in mind is also making its way into production BMW M cars.
BMW Motorrad Joins the Nürburgring Celebration

The anniversary collection is not limited to cars. BMW Motorrad is also joining the celebration with three M models:
- BMW M 1000 RR – a Supersport motorcycle focused heavily on racetrack performance.
- BMW M 1000 R – a hyper naked bike bringing Superbike-level performance to the road and circuit.
- BMW M 1000 XR – a high-performance crossover combining performance with long-distance capability.
Unlike the six BMW M cars, the three motorcycles have a clearly defined production limit. Each model will be limited to 100 units worldwide.
What Do the BMW M 1000 Anniversary Bikes Get?
The three motorcycles receive a comprehensive anniversary specification.
Standard equipment includes the M Track Package, historical Nürburgring Green paint, anniversary decals, carbon wheels, a black rear swingarm and black rear frame.
The motorcycles also feature a seat in an Alcantara look with “100” embroidery, a painted fuel tank with Nordschleife decoration and an airbox cover featuring the anniversary design and an individual “one of 100” marking.
Each motorcycle also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. The BMW M 1000 RR and BMW M 1000 R additionally receive an M Cover Kit.
An exclusive motorcycle mat carrying the “100 Jahre Nürburgring” logo and a rear-wheel paddock stand complete the special equipment package.
Could These BMW M Models Become Future Collector Cars?
The 100 Jahre Nürburgring edition has several characteristics that could make it interesting to collectors in the future: a major motorsport anniversary, a distinctive factory specification, Nürburgring Green paint and dedicated equipment that separates the cars from standard production models.
The three BMW M motorcycles have an additional factor working in their favour from a collector perspective: each is limited to just 100 examples worldwide.
The situation is different with the six BMW M cars. BMW has announced the special edition but has not stated a production limit for the automobiles. Their future collectability will therefore depend on factors such as production numbers, market demand, condition, mileage and documentation.
For collectors, original specification, low mileage and complete documentation are likely to be important factors. The distinctive Nürburgring Green configuration should also make these cars particularly easy to identify in the future.
When Can You Order the BMW M 100 Jahre Nürburgring Models?
The BMW M3 Sedan, BMW M3 Touring, BMW M4 Coupé, BMW M5 Sedan and BMW M5 Touring will be available to order from September 2026.
The BMW M2 will follow in January 2027.
BMW says information regarding ordering and availability of the three BMW Motorrad special models will be announced separately.

BMW M 100 Jahre Nürburgring Is More Than a Green Paint Job
The 100 Jahre Nürburgring edition brings together two parts of BMW’s identity that have been closely connected for decades: motorsport development and high-performance road cars.
Six BMW M cars receive dedicated anniversary configurations, while three BMW Motorrad M models are produced in strictly limited runs of 100 units each. Nürburgring Green, Nordschleife graphics, anniversary markings, special wheels and carbon-fibre components create a consistent visual identity across the collection.
More importantly, BMW is using the anniversary to highlight the technology transfer between the racetrack and its production vehicles. From BMW M Ignite in the inline-six models to the track-focused specification of the M motorcycles, the Nürburgring connection goes beyond a badge or a special paint color.
BMW’s own philosophy for the edition says it best: “Born on the Racetrack. Made for the Streets.”
